2024 New york state museum - After working almost 30 years as a geologist for the State Survey, Hall was made "curator" of the State Cabinet in 1865 and was authorized to carry out a plan for an official Museum. In 1870, the State Cabinet was officially renamed the "New York State Museum of Natural History" and Hall was appointed as the first director.
